World Cup 2014 – Day 17 Betting Offers

World Cup 2014 Day 17 is upon us with the first two games in the last 16 matches being entirely South American affairs.

At 1700 BST in Belo Horizonte hosts Brazil play Chile whilst later tonight at 2100 BST Colombia play Uruguay at the Maracana in Rio De Janeiro.

In today’s first fixture hosts Brazil take on fellow South American’s Chile in what could prove to be an entertaining fixture. Chile were regarded by many observers as potential “dark horses” in this year’s tournament – coach Jorge Sampaoli has created a team that have a fast pressing style and always try to impose their game on the opposition . It was felt that his approach could unsettle European sides who favour a slower , patient passing game and sure enough this proved to be correct as Chile beat reigning Champions Spain in their Group B fixture.

The problem with Chile’s full on attacking style is that they are susceptible to a quick counter attack – something at which the Brazilian’s are experts so this looks like being an intriguing contest.

The main battle could well be between Brazil’s left back Marcelo and Chile’s forward Alexis Sanchez , both familiar with each other as they play for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively thus they know each other well. Add to this the occasional wandering of David “ Sideshow Bob” Luiz and you have the possibility of an attacking spectacle, there is certainly no chance of either team “parking the bus” so this game is unlikely to end 0-0 !

In today’s other last 16 game Colombia play Uruguay at the Maracana in Rio De Janeiro . The Uruguayan team have been the subject of much media attention because of the issues involving the suspension of Luis Suarez with an apparent feeling of injustice regarding the length of Suarez’s ban. If you add to this the fact that the Colombia v Uruguay game is being played at the Maracana this adds extra spice to the fixture . Uruguayan’s still refer to Maracanazo ( The Maracana Blow) which highlights their shock 2-1 win over Brazil in 1950 and see this as an example of a small nation taking on the big guns and winning . Uruguayan coach Oscar Tabarez , he of the curt Press Statement will not need to worry too much about his pre match team talk for this game as his players will feel that they have a point to prove.

So how will Colombia prepare against a “fired up “ Uruguay ? Coach Jose Pekerman has a simple plan that allows the Colombians to seemingly dawdle around , harmlessly passing the ball “tiki-taka” style until they suddenly become an incisive attacking unit confounding their opponents. Colombia keep the ball well , are a good passing team and despite the big loss of Radamel Falcao to injury prior to the tournament have a wealth of skilful players in particular Monaco’s James Rodriguez who has already scored three goals in this year’s tournament.

So with two entertaining games in prospect , neither of which looks like a low scoring game what is on offer for punters today ?
