Premier League Betting Review – 2013/14 Season

With the start of the 2013/14 Premier League season only a day and a half away the mainstream media are at pains to inform us the this coming season will be the most competitive for years . Fans of Championship clubs will no doubt smirk at this statement because if you want to see competitive then look no further than the Championship , League One looks pretty competitive as well which can only be good for the game.

So in the Premiership have the Big 4 ( Manchester Utd , Manchester City , Chelsea and Arsenal ) become the Big 6 ( the Big 4 plus Liverpool and Tottenham ) ?

With new managers starting the season at both the Manchester clubs and Chelsea and with Arsenal apparently still unwilling to splash out in the transfer market it may be the case that Liverpool and Tottenham fans may feel more optimistic this season than in previous campaigns . Chelsea fans will however note that the return of the “Special One” will hardly hinder their chances and in fact could be a major reason for Chelsea to be considered slight favourites this season.

So what do the bookies think ?

It has to be said that the bookies aren’t exactly giving much away in the Win market with some extremely short odds when you consider a ball hasn’t even been kicked yet !

The bookies have Manchester City and Chelsea installed as joint favourites more or less across the board at odds of 9/4

Manchester United are third in the betting at a generally available 5/2 with Arsenal coming in a slightly more generous 10/1 with most bookies but a slightly better 11/1 at Paddy Power.

Liverpool are installed at a general 28/1 but 33/1 with Stan James with Tottenham next in the betting at 33/1 with most bookies.

The relegation market unfortunately offers no real value either with the three promoted Championship teams heading the betting , Crystal Palace at 8/15 , Hull ( Tigers?) at 4/6 and Cardiff City at 13/8 ( 7/4 with Skybet ).

Stoke City and Norwich City are both quoted at 3/1 in the relegation market but it appears that the bookies are not really looking any further than the three promoted teams to have a swift return to the Championship.

Perhaps the best value bet for punters is the Top 8 market being run by Stan James – they have Everton installed at 2/5 , most Evertonians will be confident of a top 8 finish so even at 2/5 this looks a certainty.

Second in the Top 8 market at Stan James are Swansea at 9/4 , followed by Newcastle at 10/3 and Southampton at 4/1 .

The Live Football Scores team fancy a punt on the next two teams in Stan James’ Top 8 list , West Brom at 4/1 but in particular Sunderland at 6/1.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has made wholesale team changes during the close season and one thing is for sure that any team Di Canio sends out will be fit and motivated – definitely worth a minor punt at 6/1 with Stan James.

The Premier League season kicks off on Saturday 17th August – don’t forget to follow the Live Scores at the Live Football Scores site !
